Research Theme Leaders
Associate Professor Grace McQuilten
Grace is a published art historian, curator and artist with expertise in contemporary art, craft, fashion and design, public art, social practice, social enterprise and community development. Grace's research challenges and transforms conventional understandings of the relationship between margin and centre in relation to the cultural economy, contemporary art practice and art history. She has pioneered work on the field of art-based social enterprise in Australia, and has worked extensively in migrant and refugee settlement. She has a multidisciplinary approach that engages with a range of fields including art, fashion, design, architecture, sustainability, sociology, business and international development.
Dr Andrea Eckersley
Andrea Eckersley is an artist, Senior Lecturer and HDR coordinator in the School of Fashion and Textiles. Primarily interested in the way the body interacts with abstract shapes, Andrea’s work treats surfaces, affects and materials as central to the realisation and experience of an artwork. Recently co-authored publications include ‘Bodies of Fashion and the Fashioning of Subjectivity’ in the journal Body and Society and the book Practicing with Deleuze: Design, Dance, Art, Writing, Philosophy. Andrea is the art editor at the Deleuze and Guattari Studies Journal and exhibits regularly in Melbourne.
